State
Representative Stan Watson is a dedicated and proven leader who has served DeKalb
County communities and communities across the State of Georgia for over thirty
(30) years. He has fought for the rights of citizens in Georgia and will continue
to fight for you as the next Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of DeKalb County.
As
a member of the Georgia House of Representatives for the past eleven (11) years,
and as Chairman of the DeKalb House Delegation, working with both Democrats and
Republicans, Stan Watson is deeply committed to strong communities and open and
honest government. He has served on the following committees:

Health and Human
Services and
Insurance
Stan
Watson demonstrates effective leadership in both business and the community.
He is currently the National Vice-President of Governmental Affairs at Matria
Healthcare and has worked in the healthcare industry for more than 25 years. He
is a former Trustee of the DeKalb County Public Library Board, former Chairman
of the Sports DeKalb Authority and served as Chair for the Hurricane Katrina Taskforce
for the National Black Caucus of State Legislators. Stan is currently a member
of 100 Black Men of America in DeKalb County, a member of King Solomon Lodge 104
F&AM; and serves on the YMCA's Board of Directors. Representative Watson is also
a volunteer basketball coach and official for DeKalb County Teams.
Stan
Watson believes in developing real solutions for the real problems facing
residents of DeKalb County and other areas in the State of Georgia. Since becoming
a public servant, he has led efforts to improve performance in our schools and
access to healthcare for children. He partnered with DeKalb law enforcement officials
to help reduce crime and secure DeKalb communities. Representative Watson helped
redefine county and state goals for small and minority business development and
helped pass legislation to strengthen Georgia's minority and women business programs.
Stan Watson believes in family, community and service to all of DeKalb County
citizens.
Stan Watson is committed
to education and the environment. He has worked as an advocate to promote
and advance DeKalb County colleges and vocational/technical schools. He voted
to continue to fund and protect the HOPE educational funding and helped to make
it possible for many students to become first generation college students. Stan
has also worked vigorously with DeKalb County conservationists to defend and preserve
DeKalb's greenspace, parks, creeks, rivers, lakes and streams for future generations.
Stan
Watson builds effective coalitions. He maintains alliances with all of
DeKalb's elected officials and Georgia's 157 municipalities while strengthening
ties between DeKalb County, the State of Georgia and the Federal Government.
Stan
Watson is deeply committed to family and faith. He and his lovely wife
Pam have a 13 year old son, William Stanley and a four- year- old daughter, Cagney
Denise. They are members of New Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church, where Stan
serves as Co-Chairman of the Deacons' Ministry and sings in the Male Chorus.
