Throughout his political and professional career, Stan Watson has been a leader in fighting for people across DeKalb County and the State of Georgia. Arts & Cultural Affairs

• Promote the arts and arts in education in public schools and institutions of higher education
• Provide a variety of opportunities for displays of artistry in all forms of the arts
• Create opportunities for children to experience and learn about art and culture
• Provide opportunities for our Seniors to become involved in all forms of art and culture
• Utilize the arts to assist with economic opportunities in the County

Seniors

• Provide a safe environment where seniors can enjoy a better quality of life
• Expand access to community based, quality, and affordable health care
• Create additional comprehensive senior facilities throughout DeKalb County
• Assist Seniors in remaining active in the community by:
  • Increasing accessibility to transportation
  • Providing opportunities for recreation and socializing
  • Utilize their knowledge and skills to improve the county

Veterans

• Work with the DeKalb Congressional delegation to ensure that all veterans receive proper healthcare services and benefits.
• Provide economic incentives for Veteran small business development.
  • Implement a Service Disabled Veteran Program (Similar to the LSBE program)

Economy

• Create New Jobs o DeKalb County has a number of things to attract business to our county. From Georgia Perimeter College to DeVry, DeKalb County is a community of well-trained and highly skilled people. As CEO, Stan will provide the leadership and the vision to work with corporate America to encourage them to do business in DeKalb County.
• Provide job training opportunities
  • DeKalb County needs a leader who has relationship with unions and schools to provide job training opportunities for our community.

After School Program Initiative

House Representative Stan Watson has a vision for an after school Program in DeKalb County. Representative Watson recognizes that after school programs are important to juvenile crime prevention, student success and the quality of life in our communities and will encouraged city leaders in all sectors and private partners to build a system of out-of-school-time opportunities for youth across DeKalb County.

• Rejuvenate support for after school programs.
• Create programs to ensure that DeKalb County youth have access to high quality, affordable after school and summer learning programs.
• Assist with eradicating the problems of truancy, juvenile crime, and low educational attainment among youth in DeKalb County
• Provide a safer environment for our communities.

Faith-based and Community Organizations

Working in partnership with the government, local, state and federal, and the private sector we can serve our communities by:

• Strengthening the capacity of faith-based and community organizations so that they can better meet social needs in DeKalb County
• Providing funding opportunities to assist with social services in areas such as education, children and family services, seniors, housing needs, homelessness, domestic violence and gang violence
• Providing literacy and mentoring services
• Creating job training and re-employment opportunities
• Providing substance abuse and mental health programs
• Establishing services for the prevention of crime

Animal Rights and Services

• Create a task force (with citizen participation) to improve the current state of affairs in DeKalb County Animal Services
• Develop a strategic plan for DeKalb County Animal Services to help protect the health and safety of the public and ensure the humane treatment of animals
• Make saving the lives of animals a priority and eliminate the euthanasia of healthy and treatable animals
• Keep the public safe from dangerous animals
